The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has extended the deadline for filing tax returns by four days, moving it from June 30 to July 5, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, KRA explained that the extension was prompted by technical challenges that disrupted its systems, making it difficult for many taxpayers to file their returns on time. The disruptions were attributed to a high volume of users attempting to access the system on the original deadline.
“Due to the high volume of taxpayers attempting to file their returns on 30th June, 2025, the system experienced technical difficulties which disrupted the normal functioning of the return filing and payment services, preventing a number of taxpayers from submitting their returns on time,” KRA said.
The authority further assured taxpayers that, in line with Section 89(5a)(b) of the Tax Procedures Act, any interest or penalties that may have accrued due to the delays will be waived—provided the returns for the year ending December 31, 2024, are filed by July 5, 2025.
KRA urged all taxpayers to take advantage of the extension to comply with their tax obligations and avoid last-minute congestion.
