Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been dropped from the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee in a fresh parliamentary reshuffle that’s raising eyebrows across the political divide.

Nyoro, one of President William Ruto’s staunchest allies during the 2022 elections, has been reassigned to the Diaspora and Immigrant Workers Committee, a move perceived by many as a significant downgrade in influence.

Replaced by Mathioya MP

The outspoken legislator has been replaced by Mathioya MP Edwin Gichuki, who previously sat in the Tourism and Wildlife Committee.

The Budget and Appropriations Committee plays a central role in shaping national spending priorities, making it one of the most sought-after seats in Parliament. Nyoro’s removal marks a dramatic shift, particularly as he once chaired the Parliamentary Budget Committee and was considered a key economic voice within Kenya Kwanza.

Political Undercurrents?

While no official reason was given for the change, critics speculate that the reshuffle may be part of a broader strategy to sideline vocal MPs or those seen as drifting from the inner core of power.

Some observers argue that the move could be punishment for Nyoro’s recent muted political stance and low-key disagreements over economic direction.

Others claim the reshuffle is a bid to weaken opposition-aligned or independent-minded lawmakers, by removing them from strategic committee roles.

“This looks like political sanitization disguised as normal reshuffling,” a senior MP who requested anonymity told Sauce.co.ke.

Mixed Reactions from Kenyans

The development has sparked mixed reactions online, with Kenyans debating whether Nyoro is being punished for internal dissent or if it’s part of routine realignment.

“From Budget to Diaspora? That’s not a reshuffle, it’s a demotion,” one user tweeted.
“Politics has no permanent friends, only shifting interests,” another posted.

What’s Next for Nyoro?

Nyoro has yet to issue a public statement on the matter. Known for his ambitious nature and strong grasp of economic affairs, many will be watching to see if this signals a shift in his loyalty or ambitions ahead of 2027.
