Nairobi, Kenya  – Activist and journalist Hanifa Aden is finally set to receive professional medical treatment for a debilitating ear condition after making a heartfelt public appeal for assistance.

Battling a Chronic Ear Infection

Hanifa has been struggling with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM), a long-term ear infection that has progressively affected her hearing. The journalist revealed that her condition had worsened, prompting her to seek urgent medical help.

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Hanifa shared her plight and asked for help in locating a reputable ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist or hospital.

Massive Public Response

Her appeal quickly gained traction, with hundreds of well-wishers, medical experts, and hospitals responding with advice, recommendations, and offers of assistance.

Shortly after, Hanifa updated her followers, revealing that she had finally secured the medical help she desperately needed.

“I have no words. Thank you all. So so much. Oozing with gratitude,” she wrote, receiving another wave of supportive messages.

Social Media’s Role in Medical Appeals

Hanifa’s case highlights the growing role of social media in connecting patients with urgent medical help in Kenya. Similar online appeals have in recent years resulted in successful treatment fundraising campaigns and quick access to specialist care.
