Nairobi, Kenya – Kenyan music sensation Nyashinski has officially signed a groundbreaking recording deal with Sony Music, marking a pivotal moment for East African music on the global stage.

The partnership is set to amplify not only Nyashinski’s career but also the region’s cultural footprint worldwide, cementing East Africa’s position as a powerhouse in global pop culture.

A Milestone for East African Music

In a statement, Nyashinski expressed the deeper significance of the move:

“This partnership with Sony Music is more than just a deal. It’s a recognition of East Africa’s rich musical talent and a platform to showcase our stories to the world.”

Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Africa, praised the Kenyan artist:

“Nyashinski represents everything the world needs to see from East Africa—authenticity, versatility, longevity, and artistic excellence. This partnership is about more than music; it’s about elevating the culture and giving East African voices the global platform they deserve.”

From Kleptomaniax to Global Stardom

Nyashinski’s music journey began in the early 2000s as part of the iconic Kenyan rap trio Kleptomaniax, known for shaping the nation’s hip hop scene. After a lengthy hiatus spent in the United States, he returned to Kenya in 2015 with a revitalised creative edge, producing chart-topping hits that reaffirmed his cultural influence.

Collaborations and Continental Impact

Over the years, Nyashinski has collaborated with some of Africa’s biggest names, including Sauti Sol, Juma Jux, and Patoranking. He also showcased his versatility on Coke Studio Africa, working with international stars such as Yemi Alade, Trey Songz, and Mafikizolo.

His ability to blend Kenyan identity with global appeal has made him a beacon for East African artistry, inspiring a new generation of musicians.

Why This Deal Matters

The Sony Music partnership is not just about expanding Nyashinski’s reach—it’s a significant boost for the Kenyan music industry, opening doors for more East African artists to access international platforms. Similar moves have helped propel African artists like Burna Boy and Wizkid to global superstardom, as seen on Billboard and Rolling Stone.
