Detectives in Embu County are investigating a suspected double murder after the bodies of two unidentified women were discovered floating in the Kapingazi River in Matakari area.
According to police reports, the grim discovery was made on Wednesday, August 13, when locals spotted the decomposed remains in the river. One of the bodies was missing its right foot, while both showed signs of having been in the water for over four days.
“The motive of the killings remains unknown. Initial indications suggest the bodies may have been dumped in the river after being murdered elsewhere,” a police spokesperson told reporters.
Bodies Taken to Mortuary for Identification
The bodies have been moved to the Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Police say it is difficult to estimate the victims’ ages due to the level of decomposition.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could help in identifying the victims and tracing those behind the murders.
This chilling incident comes amid rising concerns over violent crime in parts of Kenya. Similar murder investigations have in the past gripped the nation, such as the murder of Jeff Mwathi which sparked nationwide outrage.
