Two sisters from Kenana Primary School in Njoro have missed classes for over a week after allegedly being humiliated and punished by a female teacher for not wearing inner garments.
According to the pupils, the teacher forced one of them to remove a trouser worn under her uniform before punishing her. She then reportedly dragged the learner to the staffroom, where about 20 teachers were present, and publicly announced that the child was not wearing panties.
The same humiliation was allegedly extended to the second sister, leaving both learners traumatized and unwilling to return to school. Family members say the children are distressed and fear further ridicule if they resume classes.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents and child rights advocates, who are calling for swift intervention by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education. Critics argue that such treatment violates the children’s dignity and may amount to emotional abuse.
Education officials in Nakuru County have been urged to investigate the matter, ensure accountability, and provide psychosocial support to the affected pupils.
