Authorities are probing a mysterious incident in which at least 29 cows died after grazing on suspected poisoned pasture at the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) Nai Farm Complex in Chepchoina.
According to farm officials, the deaths occurred between September 16 and September 28, 2025, after a herd of cattle that had been grazing in the fields started showing signs of illness before dying one after the other.
Veterinary Tests Confirm Poisoning
Samples from the carcasses were taken to the Eldoret Veterinary Investigation Laboratories, where tests confirmed that the livestock had consumed poisoned grass.
So far, 29 head of cattle have died, with several others reported to be in critical condition. Dozens more are currently undergoing treatment as veterinary experts monitor the situation.
Motive Still Unknown
The motive behind the poisoning is still unclear. Police and agricultural officials have launched an investigation to establish whether the poisoning was accidental or deliberate sabotage.
The ADC Nai Farm spans 1,578 hectares (3,945 acres) and is a major agricultural hub in Chepchoina ward, Endebess Subcounty, known for large-scale livestock and crop farming.
Authorities are urging surrounding farmers to remain vigilant and report any unusual illnesses in livestock to veterinary officers immediately.
