Nairobi, Kenya – Monday, October 6, 2025 — Popular Mugithi musician Shalkido has passed away, days after being involved in a horrific motorcycle accident along Thika Road.
Sauce.co.ke had earlier reported that the artist was admitted to Kenyatta University (KU) Referral Hospital in critical condition after the early Sunday morning crash.
According to sources close to the family, Shalkido succumbed to severe brain injuries sustained in the accident. He had been placed under intensive care after doctors declared him brain dead earlier in the week.
The accident occurred shortly after the musician performed at a popular entertainment joint in Thika. He was reportedly riding his motorcycle back to Nairobi when tragedy struck at around 4 a.m.
Media personality Oga Obinna, who was among the last people to see the artist alive, revealed that they had met briefly on Thika Road before parting ways. Hours later, news broke that Shalkido had been rushed to hospital with serious head injuries.
“We had just left Thika when he waved and took an exit near KU. Later, I was told he had been involved in an accident,” Obinna said.
A Rising Star Gone Too Soon
Shalkido, known for blending Gengetone energy with Mugithi rhythm, had only recently begun to rebuild his music career after years away from the limelight. Earlier this year, he had publicly opened up about his financial struggles and efforts to start over through a boda boda business.
His appeal for support drew the attention of comedian Eric Omondi, who, through his Sisi kwa Sisi initiative, helped raise funds to buy Shalkido a new motorbike — the same one involved in the tragic crash.
Fans and fellow artists have since flooded social media with condolences and tributes, celebrating Shalkido’s contribution to Kenya’s evolving music scene.
Funeral Arrangements Underway
