Nairobi, Kenya – Monday, October 6, 2025 — Popular Gengetone artist Shalkido, a former member of the hit group Sailors Gang, has reportedly been declared brain dead by doctors following a ghastly motorcycle accident early Sunday morning along Thika Road.
According to close sources, the artist — whose real name is Mejja Shalkido — was rushed to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital after sustaining severe head injuries. He has been receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since the incident.
Accident Happened After Night Performance
Reports indicate that Shalkido was involved in the accident at around 4 a.m., shortly after performing at an entertainment joint in Thika. Media personality Oga Obinna, who was among the last people to see him, confirmed that they had traveled together before parting ways.
“We rode together up to just past KU. He waved as he took an exit. Hours later, I got the news that he had been involved in an accident,” said Obinna.
Shalkido’s motorbike has since been towed to a local police station as investigations into the cause of the crash continue.
Fans and Artists Send Messages of Support
Following reports of his critical condition, fans and fellow musicians have flooded social media with messages of hope and prayers for the artist’s recovery.
This incident comes just months after Shalkido made a comeback to the limelight, sharing about his financial struggles and receiving support from comedian Eric Omondi’s “Sisi kwa Sisi” initiative, which helped him acquire a motorbike to start a boda boda business.
A Rising Star Fighting for His Life
Shalkido rose to fame as part of the Sailors Gang, the group behind major Gengetone hits such as Wamlambez and Pekejeng. The group helped shape Kenya’s urban music sound in the late 2010s before disbanding amid management wrangles.
As of Sunday evening, doctors confirmed that Shalkido remains on life support and is being closely monitored by specialists at KU Referral Hospital.
