Lightning Deaths Common in Migori Region
Authorities and residents have raised concerns over the recurring lightning-related deaths in parts of Migori County and other western Kenya regions.
Local leaders have called for installation of lightning arresters in schools, churches, and homes to reduce fatalities during the rainy season.
Experts say Kenya records dozens of lightning deaths annually, especially in high-risk areas such as Kisii, Migori, and Homa Bay Counties.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, communities in these regions are urged to avoid open fields and metallic objects during storms, as lightning intensity tends to increase during short rains.
