Motivational speaker and preacher Robert Burale has filed a Ksh20 million defamation lawsuit against media personality Alex Mwakideu and his sister Rozina Mwakideu, following an explosive YouTube interview that went viral online.
In a petition filed at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, Burale claims that Rozina’s allegations — made during an interview on Alex’s YouTube channel — were false, malicious, and intended to destroy his reputation.
Rozina’s Allegations Against Burale
In the widely shared interview, Rozina gave an emotional account of her one-year marriage to Burale, describing it as “the darkest moment” of her life.
She alleged that their union was marked by emotional neglect, financial struggles, and what she termed as a lack of affection from Burale. Rozina further claimed that she had accessed his personal documents and discovered information that worsened her emotional distress.
The video, uploaded to Alex Mwakideu’s official YouTube channel, has since attracted over 650,000 views, with snippets of the conversation spreading rapidly across social media platforms.
Burale’s Legal Demands
Through his lawyers, Burale contends that the allegations were fabricated and injurious to his image as a public figure and preacher.
He accuses Alex of professional negligence, arguing that the media host failed to verify the claims before publishing the video.
In his petition, Burale asks the court to:
- Compel Alex and Rozina to delete the video from all online platforms.
- Restrict the public from reposting or commenting on the interview.
- Award him Ksh20 million in general and exemplary damages.
“Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter partes, an injunction be and is hereby granted restraining and prohibiting the sharing or posting of any type of interaction regarding the defamatory publication,” reads part of Burale’s application.
The case adds to a growing number of high-profile defamation suits involving Kenyan celebrities and digital content creators, raising questions about ethics in digital journalism and personal storytelling.
