A disturbing viral video has captured the moment a Somali youth was knocked down by a speeding bus at the busy Muthaiga Underpass in Nairobi while filming a TikTok challenge. The dramatic footage has sparked widespread concern over rising risky behaviour among young content creators.
The young man was filming with friends when the incident occurred. In the video, he is seen wearing a sweatshirt, grey jeans and black slides while participating in what appears to be a trending TikTok dance. Moments before the crash, he walked past another youth who was also posing and gesturing for the live video.
As soon as he turned his back toward the road, an orange bus approached at high speed, navigating the underpass bend. The bus struck him on the face and torso with immense force, instantly flinging him to the roadside. The other young man managed to jump out of the way in fear as the impact occurred.
Shocked passersby and the youths’ friends can be heard screaming as the video abruptly ends, leaving viewers unsure of the victim’s condition. Police and emergency services have not yet released an official statement, though social media users and road safety advocates have condemned the growing trend of unsafe filming near moving traffic.
The Muthaiga Underpass is a known high-speed stretch with limited visibility, especially at bends — making it particularly dangerous for pedestrians. Authorities have repeatedly warned Kenyans against conducting photo or video shoots on active highways due to the risk of fatal accidents.
The incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of pedestrian safety laws and for young content creators to exercise responsibility when filming in public spaces. Online commentators have urged TikTokers to prioritise their safety over viral trends and views.
