Betty Bayo’s mother is demanding an independent postmortem following bombshell allegations that the gospel singer died from severe head injuries — not leukaemia — in a shocking twist that has rocked Kenya’s gospel community.
The emotionally charged claims surfaced during a virtual interview aired late Thursday night, December 4, 2025, on Shiru Wa Oakland’s YouTube channel. Speaking live from the United States, Mama Betty insisted her daughter’s estranged husband, Tash, was responsible for the fatal injuries.
Rejects leukaemia explanation
Mama Betty dismissed the leukaemia narrative that had circulated widely in Kenyan media after Betty’s sudden death on November 18, 2025.
“My daughter did not die from leukaemia. Betty died from severe head injuries after Tash beat her badly,”
she said, her voice trembling.
She revealed that Betty and Tash had quietly separated three months earlier and that he had already relocated back to the U.S. — raising serious questions about how he appeared in Kenya within hours of her death.
“Only someone who knew something was going to happen could move that fast,”
she added.
Claims of financial exploitation
Mama Betty described a pattern of alleged financial abuse, claiming Tash drained Betty’s music earnings and business income to purchase two heavy-duty lorries in the U.S., each valued at approximately KSh 8 million.
The final violent confrontation allegedly occurred when a drunk Tash demanded an additional KSh 5 million.
“That night he beat her badly. She cried to me, ‘Mum, who did you leave me with? I’m not safe. Huyu ataniua.’”
Suspicious actions after death
Further deepening suspicion, Mama Betty questioned how Tash personally checked Betty’s body into Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital almost immediately after her death despite living abroad.
She also accused him of withholding crucial documents — Betty’s death certificate, national ID, and other papers needed for bank and succession processes.
Allegations of inappropriate behaviour after burial
Mama Betty claimed Tash’s behaviour worsened after the burial on November 25 in Kisaruni, Narok County.
“The very night we laid my daughter to rest, he brought different women into the house and slept in Betty’s matrimonial bed.”
She added that although Tash initially agreed that Betty’s two younger children, Heaven and Skylar, would stay with her sisters, he later reversed the decision and told the family to seek court orders if they wanted custody.
Calls on Kanyari to intervene
Mama Betty praised Pastor Victor Kanyari — Betty’s ex-husband and father of her first two children — for standing by his kids throughout the ordeal.
“Kanyari has never abandoned his children. I’m begging him to go to that house and check on Heaven and Skylar because they are not safe.”
Disappointment with Shiru Wa GP
She also expressed heartbreak over the silence of gospel singer Shiru Wa GP, believed to have been among Betty’s closest friends.
“I have called Shiru countless times since this tragedy, and she has never picked up or called back. It pains me deeply.”
