A government officer has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly forging official documents intended to manipulate police recruitment and advance his own career.
The suspect, identified as Maroa Sammy Maroa, was taken into custody on Wednesday in the Ngoigwa area of Thika West Sub-county after intelligence-led operations tracked him down.
According to the DCI, the arrest followed Maroa’s latest attempt to submit a forged letter—allegedly authorised by a senior government official—to the CEO of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC). The letter reportedly contained a list of “state-recommended candidates” for the ongoing police recruitment exercise.
Investigations also revealed that Maroa, an economist at the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, is currently on suspension due to an earlier forgery case pending before the Kahawa Law Courts. In that case, he is accused of forging a letter promoting himself to the rank of Director and transferring himself to the State Department for Housing.
Detectives said the suspect tried to avoid arrest by switching off all his known mobile numbers and hiding.
“Realising detectives were closing in, he went dark, switching off all his known numbers, imagining he had slipped off the radar. But our crime busters, unamused and undeterred, deployed meticulous intelligence leads and smoked him out of his hideout,” said the DCI.
Maroa is expected to face charges including forgery, uttering false documents, and abuse of public office.
