Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has revealed that the historic Kipchoge Keino Stadium will officially be renamed William Ruto Stadium once its reconstruction is completed.
The facility—recently commissioned by Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya—has been relocated to the Kapsabet Showground to allow for the construction of a new ultra-modern 10,000-seat stadium.
This is part of Nandi County’s broader plan to upgrade sports infrastructure and boost athletic excellence in the region.
Speaking during the unveiling of the new Kapsabet Municipality offices, Governor Sang credited President William Ruto for playing a crucial role in mobilising resources to strengthen sports programs across Nandi.
“Renaming the stadium is our way of appreciating the President’s unwavering support for sports development,” Sang said.
According to the Governor, the revamped stadium will create more opportunities for athletes, elevate training standards, and reinforce Nandi’s status as a global athletics hub once the project is fully completed.
