Detectives drawn from Igembe South, Igembe North, and Mutuati sub-counties have arrested a National Police Reserve (NPR) officer suspected of involvement in a violent robbery at Kirindini Shopping Centre in Igembe South.
The arrest followed a coordinated security operation based on intelligence gathered from a robbery with violence that occurred on December 19, 2025. In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers conducted an extensive search across several villages, including Kina Meru, Kiutine, and Kina-Duba, eventually leading to the suspect’s capture.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly led detectives to a location where an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in the robbery had been buried. The firearm was recovered alongside a magazine loaded with two rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition.
Police also seized the officer’s officially issued Government G3 rifle and its magazine as part of the investigation.
The suspect remains in custody as detectives finalize processing ahead of his arraignment in court. Meanwhile, security teams have intensified operations in the area to track down other gang members believed to be involved in the attack and who are still at large.
The arrest comes as Kenyans head into the festive season, with the DCI assuring the public of heightened nationwide operations to curb crime. Authorities say they remain committed to swift action to protect lives, property, and public safety during the holiday period.
