President William Ruto has announced an ambitious new infrastructure plan, revealing that construction of a modern expressway from Thika to Museum Hill will begin next year. The declaration, made during the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations at Nyayo Stadium, adds yet another major pledge to the President’s rapidly growing list of Nairobi development commitments.
Ruto said the national government and Nairobi County have reached a fresh agreement to restart all stalled road projects across the capital, saying contractors who had abandoned sites will now be recalled.
“There are a lot of things we have agreed with the Nairobi County Government to undertake in the city. We are going to build all the roads that had stalled here in Nairobi, and we have already agreed to return all contractors,” he stated.
According to the President, 60 kilometres of roads are currently under construction in various estates.
He highlighted several ongoing projects, including:
- Muhuri Road – Dagoretti South
- Mama Wahu Road – Dagoretti South
- Mihang’o Link Bypass – Embakasi East
- Umoja 1 SDA Road – Embakasi West
- Thindigwa Road – Roysambu
- Road C – Embakasi South
Ruto said the new expressway, combined with revived estate roads, will form part of a wider plan to ease Nairobi’s chronic traffic congestion and improve mobility for millions of residents.
The announcement has already sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising the vision, while critics argue the President is quickly earning the title of “King of Promises.”
