Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has died following a tragic road accident along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Jirongo lost his life in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, 2025, after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a head-on collision with a bus at the Karai area, police have confirmed.
According to Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo, the fatal crash occurred at around 3:00 a.m., with Jirongo reportedly alone in the car at the time of the accident.
Family members and close associates said the former lawmaker had earlier attended a meeting with a group of Western Kenya leaders in Karen, Nairobi, before embarking on a late-night drive to his rural home in Lugari, Kakamega County.
However, other accounts indicate that Jirongo may have already reached Naivasha for a meeting and was on his way back to Nairobi when the tragic accident occurred.
Police and witnesses at the scene said Jirongo’s vehicle was badly damaged, suggesting the impact was severe. Friends who rushed to the scene were directed to a nearby mortuary, where his body had been taken by authorities.
Plans are underway to transfer the body to Nairobi for further procedures as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash continue.
Jirongo was a prominent political figure and businessman, widely known for his influence in Western Kenya politics. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the political and business communities.
