Police in Bomet County are investigating a tragic incident in which two teenage cousins died after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance in the Lelkatet area.

The victims have been identified as Elisha Kibet, 14, and Amos Kiprono, 15. According to authorities, the two were found inside a room where they had been staying after swallowing an unknown substance.

Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa said Elisha Kibet was pronounced dead on arrival at Longisa Referral Hospital, while Amos Kiprono succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the same facility.

Police have launched investigations to establish the type of substance consumed and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Detectives are also seeking to determine the motive behind the apparent suicide.

The bodies of the two teenagers have since been moved to Longisa Referral Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.

Authorities have urged members of the public to seek help and report signs of distress among young people as investigations continue.
