Police in Kisii County have arrested two bar attendants in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old reveler following a violent altercation at a drinking joint in the Nyankongo area on New Year’s Day.
The deceased, Job Momanyi, succumbed to serious injuries while receiving treatment in hospital after he was allegedly assaulted at the bar.
Dispute Over Sh450 Bill Turns Deadly
According to police reports, Momanyi had visited the bar with friends to usher in the New Year. Trouble began after the group reportedly failed to settle a Sh450 drinks bill, triggering a confrontation with the bar attendants.
The situation quickly escalated, with the attendants allegedly attacking two revelers using beer bottles. Momanyi sustained severe injuries during the assault.
He was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but later died from his injuries, prompting outrage among locals and swift police action.
Suspects Arrested, Court Date Set
Following the incident, police officers visited the bar and arrested the two attendants, who are now being held for interrogation as investigations continue.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on January 5, where they will face murder-related charges.
Police have condemned the incident, warning bar operators and staff against the use of violence to resolve disputes, especially over minor financial disagreements.
The case adds to growing concerns over alcohol-related violence during festive seasons, with law enforcement urging restraint and peaceful conflict resolution in entertainment spots.
