Residents of Kiamuthambi village in Kirinyaga Central are reeling in shock after a daring overnight robbery in which a Lexus valued at KSh35 million was stripped of its spare parts.
The incident occurred at the home of local businesswoman Rose Muriuki, leaving her family and the wider community stunned.
Over 20 Armed Suspects Storm Homestead
According to family members, including John Muriuki Kiama and Anne Mwaniki, more than 20 armed suspects arrived at the well-fenced compound in two vehicles in the dead of night.
The gang reportedly overpowered the watchman, Anthony Namanda, tying him up before gaining access to the house.
“They came in quietly and tied me up before I could even react,” Namanda said, adding that the suspects appeared highly organized and seemed to know exactly what they were targeting.
Victims Drugged as Car Is Dismantled
The suspects are said to have sprayed an unknown substance into the bedroom where Muriuki and her female friend were sleeping, rendering them unconscious.
Between midnight and 4 a.m., the gang allegedly dismantled the high-end Lexus, making away with valuable spare parts before fleeing the scene.
The victims reportedly regained consciousness at around 9 a.m. while in hospital, where they learned of the incident.
“This is the first time I’ve seen a vehicle stripped of its spare parts. I’ve owned vehicles for over 40 years, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” said Kiama.
Suspects Believed to Be Experts
Residents believe the criminals may not be locals but specialists from Nairobi familiar with high-end vehicles and spare parts markets.
Police have launched investigations into the robbery as the community calls for enhanced security measures in the area.
