Domestic football competitions are set for disruption after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced the temporary closure of key stadiums and training facilities to pave the way for preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a statement issued on February 12, FKF President Hussein Mohammed said the move is necessary to facilitate inspections, upgrades and improvement works required to meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards ahead of the continental showpiece.
Kenya is currently hosting a CAF technical inspection mission as part of readiness assessments for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2027, which the country will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
Mohammed confirmed that the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Nyayo National Stadium and the under-construction Talanta Sports City will be temporarily unavailable as they undergo inspection and evaluation.
Other facilities affected include Ulinzi Sports Complex, the Kenya Academy of Sports grounds, Police Sacco Stadium, Utalii College grounds and additional designated training venues earmarked for the tournament.
FKF indicated that further updates will be provided regarding scheduling adjustments for local competitions as the inspection and upgrade process continues.
