Police in Mbooni East Subcounty, Makueni County have launched a manhunt for a police constable attached to Ngoni Police Post who allegedly fled after being found cultivating bhang within the police lines.
Tip-Off Leads to Raid
According to a police report, officers from Mbumbuni Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the post on February 22, 2026, following a tip-off.
The report indicates that Constable Ramadhan Mwiti Nassir had allegedly planted the narcotic crop in front of his house within the police residential quarters.
Suspect Flees with Evidence
As the team moved in to uproot the plants, the officer reportedly preemptively uprooted the bhang himself and wrapped it in clothing.
When fellow officers attempted to restrain him, he bolted into a nearby bush while still holding the suspected narcotics.
Although he managed to escape arrest, authorities recovered a bhang stem that fell during the chase. The stem has since been retained as an exhibit.
Investigations Ongoing
Police have since launched a pursuit of the fugitive officer as investigations continue.
The incident has raised concerns over discipline and integrity within the service, with authorities expected to take firm action once the suspect is apprehended.
