Former Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has died after suffering a sudden heart attack, his current club Nejmeh SC in Lebanon has confirmed.
Firat, who was serving as the first-team coach at the Lebanese club, reportedly collapsed on Monday, March 9, while at Istanbul Airport in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the club, the Turkish tactician was travelling to Adana, Turkey, just hours after departing Beirut, when the fatal incident occurred.
Club Mourns “Dedicated Professional”
In a statement, Nejmeh Football Club expressed deep sorrow over Firat’s sudden death, describing him as a dedicated professional who made a significant impact during his time with the team.
“With great sadness, Star Athletic Club mourns first-team coach Captain Engin Firat, who passed away following a sudden heart attack while at Istanbul Airport on his way to Adana, just hours after leaving Beirut,” the club said.
The club further praised Firat for his professionalism, strong work ethic, and the positive influence he had on players and staff.
Coaching Career
Firat previously served as head coach of Harambee Stars, the national football team of Kenya, where he was involved in guiding the team through several international competitions and qualification campaigns.
His sudden death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from the football community, with many remembering him for his dedication to the sport and the players he mentored throughout his coaching career.
