The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed claims that former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was abducted, stating that CCTV evidence shows the reported disappearance was staged.
In a statement issued on Friday, detectives said the incident—initially reported at Karen Police Station on March 22, 2026—was deliberately orchestrated to mislead both law enforcement and the public.
CCTV Evidence Contradicts Abduction Claims
According to the DCI, investigations involving CCTV footage, witness statements, and other supporting evidence have established a clear and coordinated sequence of events on March 21.
Detectives say Tuju’s vehicle was first captured leaving Entim Sidai Hotel at around 6:46 pm before briefly stopping to interact with a white Toyota Probox.
The two vehicles then drove off in different directions—an action investigators believe suggests prior coordination rather than a random encounter.
Minutes later, Tuju’s car was seen heading toward his residence, while the Probox proceeded toward Ngong Road. Shortly afterward, Tuju’s vehicle appeared near Karen Shopping Centre.
Coordinated Movements Raise Questions
The DCI further revealed that the two vehicles later reunited along Nandi Road, with CCTV footage capturing the Probox closely trailing Tuju’s car before both proceeded toward Miotoni Road.
Investigators argue that this pattern of movement does not support claims of an abduction or forced disappearance. Instead, it points to a planned and coordinated sequence designed to create the impression of a security incident.
Investigations Ongoing
The agency maintains that the findings directly contradict earlier claims that Tuju had been followed by suspicious vehicles without number plates.
With the new developments, authorities are now focusing on the individuals involved in the alleged staging of the incident, as investigations continue.
The DCI is expected to provide further updates as the probe progresses.
