Police in Kiambu County are investigating a violent robbery incident in which a driver transporting a vehicle to Uganda was shot and injured at the Gitaru interchange.
Minor Accident Turns Into Armed Robbery
According to police reports, the driver was behind the wheel of a Subaru Forester SG5 he had picked from Mombasa Port for delivery to Kampala when another car rammed into him on the evening of April 15.
What initially appeared to be a routine road accident quickly escalated into a well-coordinated attack.
Armed Assailants Strike
When the driver stopped to assess the damage, two men who had alighted from the other vehicle confronted him, brandishing a pistol and forcing him back into his car.
Despite attempting to resist, the driver was shot in the right leg above the knee, allowing the attackers to take control of the vehicle.
Victim Dumped, Rescued by Boda Boda Rider
The assailants drove the stolen car towards Ndenderu before abandoning the injured driver at Mabrouke Tea Plantation along Nazareth Hospital Road.
A Good Samaritan boda boda rider later found him and rushed him to Tigoni Level IV Hospital, where he received medical attention.
Stolen Vehicle Disappears
Police confirmed that the stolen vehicle’s tracking device was disabled before it was fitted with local number plates and driven to an unknown destination.
Authorities also recovered the bullet used in the shooting, which has been secured as evidence.
Investigations Ongoing
Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspects, with officers pursuing leads to recover the vehicle and apprehend those behind the attack.
The incident highlights growing concerns over organised carjackings targeting vehicles in transit along major highways.
