The Office of the Deputy President has come under scrutiny over its spending on helicopter services, with lawmakers questioning mounting pending bills amounting to KSh478 million.
MPs Question Expenditure
Members of the National Assembly Public Accounts Committee on Thursday put the office to task over its financial obligations for the 2024/25 financial year.
The committee raised concerns over unpaid bills owed to suppliers and service providers, demanding accountability on the rising debt.
KSh8 Million Daily Chopper Costs
Lawmakers were particularly alarmed by reports that the office spent up to KSh8 million per day on helicopter transport.
An inquiry revealed that KSh150 million of the pending bills is linked to helicopter services reportedly used by Kithure Kindiki.
Mounting Pending Bills
The revelations emerged during a review of outstanding obligations, with MPs questioning whether the expenditure was justified amid growing financial pressures.
They also sought clarity on procurement procedures and whether due process was followed in contracting the helicopter services.
Calls for Accountability
The committee is now expected to push for detailed explanations from the Office of the Deputy President, as concerns grow over public spending and fiscal discipline.
The scrutiny comes amid broader efforts by Parliament to rein in government expenditure and ensure transparency in the use of public funds.
