Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has directed Douglas Kanja to deploy a special police unit to crack down on politically sponsored goons across the country.

Special Police Unit Deployed

Speaking in Nandi County and Trans Nzoia County on Sunday, Murkomen said the time for warnings was over, signaling a tougher stance against rising cases of politically instigated violence.

“Time for talking is over. I have told the Inspector General to send a special team to sweep away those gangs,” he said.

Politicians Accused of Fueling Chaos

Murkomen accused some politicians of arming and mobilizing youths to cause unrest for political gain.

“I want to warn leaders against giving young people crude weapons and drugs. That must stop,” he cautioned.

He further alleged that some politicians go as far as sponsoring violence at their own events to gain sympathy and push for the resignation of government officials.

Security Challenges Shift

The CS noted that while the government has made progress in tackling banditry and terrorism, a new threat is emerging from politically driven violence.

“Politicians are now becoming the perpetrators of anarchy in some parts of the country,” he said.

Link to Kikuyu Chaos

Murkomen’s remarks come in the wake of chaos witnessed during a rally linked to Rigathi Gachagua in Kikuyu Constituency.

The event was disrupted after suspected goons blocked sections of the Southern Bypass and harassed motorists.

Police were forced to lob teargas canisters to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Warning to Leaders

Murkomen emphasized that the government will no longer tolerate the use of violence in politics, warning leaders against exploiting young people to destabilize communities.

The directive marks a significant escalation in efforts to curb political unrest and maintain public order across the country.
