Opposition political activity are expected to intensify on Sunday as rival factions stage parallel engagements across the country, with Rigathi Gachagua leading events in Murang’a County while Edwin Sifuna shall spearhead the Linda Mwananchi faction’s activities in Nakuru.
Gachagua, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) boss, shall begin his day with a church service at ACK Nyakagumo in Maragua town.
He is also expected to hold a series of “meet the people” forums in Maragua, Kenol, and Progas in Kabati as part of his ongoing grassroots mobilisation campaign.
The former Deputy President has in recent days toured several areas including Githurai, Ruiru, Kikuyu and Murang’a, ramping up his political outreach ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His Murang’a tour follows a rally in Nairobi’s Dagoretti South on Saturday, where he sharply criticised William Ruto over the rising cost of fuel. Gachagua issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding a reduction in fuel prices, warning that failure to act would trigger nationwide protests.
“He promised to put money in people’s pockets, but instead increased the burden. If fuel prices are not reduced, we will mobilise Kenyans to take action,” Gachagua said.
Meanwhile, the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is holding its own parallel events in Nakuru County.
The group is scheduled to attend a church service at Kivumbini PAG Church before hosting a political rally at Mazembe Grounds later in the day.
The faction, which includes leaders such as Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has positioned itself in opposition to any cooperation between ODM and the ruling administration.
On Saturday, Siaya Governor James Orengo met members of the Luo community in Nakuru and reaffirmed his commitment to the party, distancing himself from any perceived alignment with the government.
“As a principal of Linda Mwananchi, I remain in ODM and will defend its values,” Orengo said, adding that the faction would resist attempts to dilute the party’s identity.
The Linda Mwananchi group emerged following internal disagreements within ODM, particularly after a section of leaders linked to Oburu Odinga signaled closer ties with the government.
The move sparked resistance from members who argued it threatened the party’s independence.
