Police in Lamu East Sub-County are investigating a suspected revenge killing that left a 24-year-old man dead and sparked chaos in the area.
Fatal Stabbing in Siyu
The victim, Swabir Hassan Omar, was stabbed in the chest on Tuesday morning in Ishakani Village.
Authorities believe the attack is linked to a long-standing feud between families.
Witnesses said the suspect, who was armed with a panga, attempted to continue the assault before fleeing toward the ocean shoreline.
Victim Dies in Hospital
Police confirmed that Swabir collapsed at the scene and was rushed to Siyu Dispensary, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Retaliation Sparks Chaos
The killing triggered immediate retaliation, with angry youth from Siyu Village storming Ishakani and setting fire to a house belonging to the suspect’s 70-year-old grandmother.
The blaze was later contained with the help of residents.
Police officers intervened to restore calm after tensions escalated in the area.
Linked to Previous Killing
Preliminary investigations indicate the incident may be an act of revenge tied to a 2023 murder case.
Police say the deceased was the younger brother of a man accused of killing the suspect’s cousin in a separate stabbing incident, a case currently pending before the High Court in Garsen.
Manhunt Underway
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large, as investigations into the incident continue.
