Kenya Railways has cautioned content creators, photographers and videographers against filming or taking photos along railway tracks, warning that the practice is both illegal and dangerous.

In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the corporation said railway tracks are classified as restricted areas and should not be used as locations for photoshoots or video production.

Kenya Railways noted that the increasing trend of creators using train tracks for social media content exposes individuals to serious safety risks due to the unpredictable movement of trains.

“Photographers: taking photos or videos on train tracks is illegal & dangerous. No shot is worth your life,” the statement read.

The agency further urged creators to prioritise safety for themselves, their teams and clients by maintaining a safe distance from railway infrastructure.

“Railway tracks are not a photoshoot location—they’re restricted, unpredictable, and dangerous. Protect yourself, your crew and your clients by keeping a safe distance,” Kenya Railways added.

The corporation also encouraged responsible content creation and public awareness on railway safety.

The warning comes amid growing popularity of railway lines as backdrops for music videos, fashion shoots and social media content among influencers and photographers.
