Police in Nairobi have arrested a 22-year-old man identified as Newton after he allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death along Kirichwa Road in Kilimani.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Thursday, May 14, 2026, as the woman and her friends walked from their workplace toward the Argwings Kodhek area.
Victim and Suspect Worked Together
According to police, both the suspect and the deceased were employees at a money-lending company.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was allegedly unhappy after the woman ended their relationship.
Friends of the deceased told investigators that the two had separated and that the woman had moved out of the suspect’s house in Kawangware to stay with her aunt.
They further described the relationship as toxic.
Woman Had Just Returned to Work
Colleagues revealed that the victim had resumed work on May 14 after being away for several weeks, unaware of the alleged plans by the suspect.
Police say the exact cause of the breakup remains unclear.
CCTV Captures Attack
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage that reportedly captured Newton ambushing the victim in full view of bystanders along the road.
Witnesses said the suspect narrowly avoided being hit by a passing vehicle during the attack.
According to accounts from the scene, the suspect later pretended to collapse beside the victim while clutching her, allegedly in an attempt to make it appear that he too had been injured and avoid mob justice from the growing crowd.
Blood on Clothes Belonged to Victim
Police officers arrived shortly afterward and rushed Newton to hospital after he claimed to have sustained injuries.
However, medical personnel reportedly established that he had no physical wounds and that the blood found on his clothes belonged to the victim.
Investigations Ongoing
Authorities have launched investigations into the killing as concerns continue to grow over cases of gender-based violence and toxic relationships in the country.
The suspect remains in police custody pending further legal action.
