Police in Kitui Central Subcounty have launched investigations into a murder and robbery incident involving a bodaboda rider who was killed before his motorcycle was stolen.

The incident was reported at around 6:20 am on May 2, 2026, after a fellow rider identified as George Mutia discovered the body while travelling to the Manyenyoni area on the southern outskirts of Kitui town.

According to police reports, George Mutia had been ferrying a passenger at about 4 am when he came across the lifeless body of Mwanzia Mutia, a 39-year-old bodaboda rider, lying along a pathway with blood pooled around his head.

Police officers who visited the scene confirmed that the deceased had sustained two deep cuts on the right side of the head.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the rider was attacked before being robbed of his motorcycle.

Detectives suspect the victim may have been targeted by a passenger he had picked up before the fatal attack.

The crime scene was processed by investigators before the body was moved to Kitui County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing as detectives pursue leads aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the killing.
