Detectives in Gigiri have launched investigations and a manhunt for a gang of armed motorcycle riders who allegedly robbed a family at gunpoint outside a car bazaar in Nairobi’s Runda area.
According to a police report filed at Runda Police Station, the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon outside Yohanna Car Bazaar along Kiambu Road.
The victims were identified as Ajmera Manishkumar, an Indian national, his wife Rashni Manishkumaran, and their daughter. Police say the family was window-shopping for vehicles when they were ambushed by the suspects.
Investigators believe the attackers were part of a larger convoy of motorcycles travelling towards Kiambu. Three motorcycles, each carrying two people, reportedly broke away from the group and approached the family near the bazaar’s main gate.
Witnesses told police that one of the suspects drew what appeared to be a pistol and pointed it at the family while the others carried out the robbery.
The gang allegedly made away with two high-end mobile phones—a Samsung Galaxy S24 and a OnePlus device—as well as several pieces of jewellery, including gold and silver necklaces and two gold rings.
After the robbery, the six suspects reportedly rejoined traffic and sped off towards Kiambu Town before police could respond.
Officers from the Gigiri and Runda policing units visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported, but no arrests had been made by the time investigations began. Fortunately, none of the victims sustained physical injuries.
The robbery is the latest in a series of similar incidents reported in Nairobi’s Westlands and Gigiri areas within a short period.
Police are also investigating other recent attacks, including a robbery involving masked men at a restaurant in Parklands and another targeting a foreign media executive in Spring Valley.
Authorities are examining whether the incidents are linked, as the suspects in each case reportedly used motorcycles, operated in coordinated groups, struck quickly, and escaped through traffic before security officers could intervene.
The emerging pattern has raised concerns among residents and security officials over the possibility of an organised criminal syndicate targeting motorists, shoppers, and pedestrians in affluent Nairobi neighbourhoods.
Detectives are reviewing witness statements and other evidence as efforts to identify and arrest the suspects continue.
