Police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found brutally murdered in the Ng’othi rice fields in Mutithi Ward, Mwea West Sub-county, Kirinyaga County.
The grim discovery shocked residents of Ng’othi, Kandongu, Kianjogu and neighbouring villages, who woke up to find the body dumped along a road near the Sogea irrigation furrow.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim sustained multiple deep panga cuts to the head, suggesting he was attacked before his body was abandoned at the scene.
Kianjogu Sub-location Assistant Chief Nyaga Kwonga, accompanied by detectives from Kiamaciri Police Station, visited the scene and launched investigations into the killing.
The body was later moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police are working to establish the identity of the deceased, the motive behind the killing and those responsible for the murder.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying the victim or aid the investigation to report to the nearest police station.
