Detectives in Khwisero Sub-County, Kakamega County, have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified teenage girl whose body was found floating in River Esava.
The grim discovery was made on Tuesday in Eshitimba Village, Khushiku Sub-location, Mulwanda Location, after members of the public spotted what appeared to be a human body in the river and alerted police.
Officers who responded to the scene established that the victim was an unidentified female juvenile believed to be about 16 years old.
According to preliminary investigations, the girl’s body had been wrapped in a mosquito net, with both her hands and legs tied.
Police also noted visible stab wounds on her neck and below her left arm, indicating that she may have died as a result of a violent attack.
Crime scene investigators documented and photographed the scene before the body was removed to Butere Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it will await identification and a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Detectives have commenced investigations to establish the victim’s identity, reconstruct the events leading to her death, and trace those responsible for the suspected murder.
