Canadian based Kenyan lawyer, Miguna Miguna, has added his voice to the criticism stirred by President William Ruto’s recent comments targeting the Judiciary.
In a social media post, Miguna urged Ruto to respect the independence of the Judiciary and discouraged the use of threats.
Miguna emphasized the pervasive issue of corruption in various sectors, including State House, and stressed the importance of addressing it through legal channels rather than resorting to extrajudicial measures. He advised President Ruto against succumbing to pressure from advisors advocating for a heavy-handed approach, cautioning against becoming a tyrant.
“Let me give President William Ruto a free but important advice. Stop threatening the judiciary. Stop threatening Kenyan litigants,” Miguna asserted.
While acknowledging Ruto’s frustration over legal challenges hindering government projects, Miguna criticized the President’s approach. He called for the use of lawful mechanisms to combat corruption, stating that there are numerous strategies available for addressing grand corruption in Kenya.
“Don’t listen to sycophants urging you to wield the sword. Those are autocratic enemies of the people. Restrain yourself. Don’t become a tyrant,” Miguna advised.
