Just days after James Wanjohi deactivated his flashy Instagram account, where he flaunted his luxurious lifestyle, detectives are now searching for him over allegations of scamming job seekers of over KSh600 million.
WorthStart Africa, Wanjohi’s company, allegedly duped more than 4,000 job seekers, with some paying as much as KSh140,000, promising them job opportunities in Canada, the UK, the US, and Australia. However, investigations have revealed that these jobs were non-existent, leaving victims demanding refunds.
Last week, investigators raided and searched Wanjohi’s company following numerous complaints from the public about the agency’s fraudulent activities. Many staff and directors connected to the company have been arrested and are currently in police custody. However, Wanjohi, the main suspect, is currently on the run.
Victims discovered WorthStart Africa through Wanjohi’s promotions at his church, Jesus Culture Ministries, where he advertised the company. He also sponsored promotions on local radio and TV stations.
According to those who have filed statements, Wanjohi went to great lengths, including falsifying financial documents, to secure VISAs for the victims. Some have even been banned from traveling to certain countries due to the fraudulent scheme.
