Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has affirmed his commitment to traveling across the country to support vulnerable groups and churches, despite recent criticisms from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua had questioned the source of funds for certain leaders in the Rift Valley who, he claimed, were using helicopters to distribute money while Kenyans were suffering. He urged MPs to focus on their constituencies and cease what he termed as “political tourism.”
“Where are these resources coming from, for politicking, when Kenyans are suffering? Choppers are being hired left, right and centre. Millions of shillings are being dished and Kenyans are suffering,” Gachagua remarked during a fundraiser for a women’s empowerment program in Kesses, Uasin Gishu on Saturday.
“I urge the MPs to stay in their Constituency and serve their people. The habit of political tourism must stop. This is what is giving us trouble.”
In a response seemingly directed at these comments, Sudi defended his actions and insisted he would not be intimidated. He highlighted the role of nationwide support in Kenya Kwanza’s rise to power, citing the influence of President William Ruto’s approach.
“Jana niliona wajumbe wengi wamesanyana huko Kesses wanasema kuna mtu anakoroga hapa, sijui kuna mtu pale. Sasa ukienda useme huyu Oscar Sudi asizunguke, akae kwa constituency na wakati unaongea uko kwa constituency ya mwingine na mko wabunge karibu 30 hiyo sini contradiction?” Sudi said, pointing out the irony of being criticized while others were also out of their constituencies.
He continued: “Wale wote walikua Kesses pale walikua wanatumia helicopter tukiwa opposition na walizunguka Kenya mzima ndo wakajulikana mpaka wakapata hiyo cheo wako nayo. Kama hutaki kuzunguka kaa nyumbani kwako. Tafuteni mtu mwingine wa Kutisha, mimi nilipita vitisho kitambo.”
Sudi made these remarks during a fundraiser for the completion of AIC Kipkorgot Church in Kapsoya ward, Ainakboi constituency. He also defended the legitimacy of his funds, stating that he did not enter politics for financial gain.
“Nawauliza nyinyi mko hapa, nikiomba kura 2012 ya kwanza mlisikia sikukuwa pesa? Mulisikia niliomba mtu mafuta? Naona mtu anataka kunisomea hapa akisema huyu mtu anatoa pesa, mara anatembea na ndege. Kwani hii ndege ilitengenezwa nani atembee nayo?” he questioned.
Despite the criticisms, Sudi reiterated his unwavering support for President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua, affirming their candidacy for the 2027 elections.
