The much-anticipated Mashemeji Derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards ended in a goalless stalemate at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday evening.

The rescheduled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash was filled with action but lacked the crucial goal that both teams desperately sought to boost their title aspirations.

Gor Mahia came close to breaking the deadlock in the 21st minute when Sheriff Musa found himself with a clear scoring opportunity, only for AFC Leopards’ goalkeeper Levis Opiyo Jr. to produce a heroic save.

Later in the first half, Bonfire Munyendo’s powerful strike in the 35th minute narrowly missed the target, keeping the score level.

The match was notable as the first league fixture to be hosted at the newly refurbished 30,000-seater Nyayo Stadium, which had been unavailable for league matches for the past year.

Despite the electric atmosphere and intense gameplay, neither side managed to capitalize on their chances, leaving fans with an entertaining but ultimately scoreless encounter.

Both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards will now shift their focus to upcoming league fixtures as they continue their pursuit of FKF Premier League glory.
