Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sharply criticized former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi for allegedly holding onto classified government documents, warning that such actions could have serious legal consequences.
Speaking during a press briefing, Murkomen questioned Muturi’s motives for keeping sensitive documents in his possession even after his exit from public office. He noted that Muturi, who also served as Attorney General, was bound by an oath of confidentiality, especially when dealing with high-level and classified information.
Murkomen accused Muturi of breaching protocol, stating, “The AG at the time said he had kept the documents on email. In another country, he could have been arrested because the principle of how to handle government documents is known.”
He went on to add that many of the documents handled by the Attorney General are stamped “Top Secret” and must be treated with the utmost discretion. “The objective is that these documents are government documents. For one of them to say, from the time he joined office, he was photocopying documents, it’s nauseating because they are not personal documents,” the CS stated.
His remarks come after Muturi, in a recent interview with NTV, accused President William Ruto of orchestrating corrupt deals within the government. Muturi claimed to have digital copies of documents that could prove his allegations.
Murkomen, however, questioned why the former CS was still in possession of such sensitive files, asserting, “You swore to confidentiality and could not be having them for two years because you’re dealing with corruption. That’s not true. He’s not the first AG to be fired.”
The heated exchange adds a new twist to the ongoing rift between former and current senior government officials amid rising political tension and increasing scrutiny over corruption allegations.
