Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come out strongly to deny claims that he demanded Ksh.10 billion from President William Ruto after the 2022 General Election to coordinate political operations in the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking during a televised interview with KTN News on Monday, Gachagua dismissed the allegations as unfounded and part of a targeted smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation, especially within his Central Kenya political base.
“I never blackmailed the President. If that were the case, it would have been the first charge during the efforts to force me out of office,” Gachagua stated.
He further accused individuals within President Ruto’s inner circle of propagating the narrative to discredit him. Among those he named were digital strategist Dennis Itumbi and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who he said had been inconsistent in their claims about the alleged funds.
