Police have arrested six street boys in connection with the abduction and torture of two teenagers at Nairobi’s Muthurwa Market.
The victims, aged 17 and 18, were heading to the city centre from Kayole on Saturday morning when they were accosted by two street boys around 9 a.m. The assailants forcibly dragged them into a makeshift mabati hovel, where they were stripped, assaulted with crude weapons, and held captive for about eight hours.
During the ordeal, the attackers used a phone belonging to one of the victims to call relatives and demand ransom money. A suspicious relative alerted police officers at Kamkunji Police Station, who managed to track the location by 5 p.m. and rescue the teenagers, who had sustained head injuries.
Six suspects were arrested at the scene, and police recovered crude weapons used in the assault. Authorities are continuing investigations, with charges expected to follow.
