Businessman Phillip Aroko, who is under investigation in connection with the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Were, has been released on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000, as previously set by the JKIA court.
The decision came after the court was informed that investigators had gathered sufficient evidence to support the case, including a formal statement from Aroko.
The prosecution supported the release, requesting that the court maintain the original bail conditions.
Representing himself, Aroko assured the court of his compliance with all directives, including the requirement to submit his passport to the Kibera Court.
This development follows a May 20, 2025, decision by the High Court to overturn an earlier ruling by the Chief Magistrate’s Court at JKIA, which had granted Aroko bail.
Justice Kavenza ruled in favor of the prosecution’s request for a seven-day extension of Aroko’s detention, citing the need to allow investigators more time to pursue crucial leads.
The judge deemed the request both reasonable and proportionate, highlighting the sensitive nature of the ongoing inquiry. The court stressed that the temporary detention aimed to support the investigation while upholding Aroko’s constitutional rights.
