A pig farmer in Ruai Sub-County, Nairobi, narrowly escaped death after being violently attacked while visiting a woman’s house.
George Mbugua has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to David Komu during the incident, which occurred on April 6 in the Kamulu area of Ruai.
According to reports, Komu had been enjoying drinks at a local pub when he was joined by a woman. After settling her bill, she invited him to her home. However, shortly after they arrived at the house, an unexpected knock at the door turned the night into a nightmare.
Mbugua, the accused, allegedly forced his way inside and—without provocation—attacked Komu using a rungu (a wooden club), striking him on the legs, hands, and head. Komu lost consciousness and only regained it two days later in a Nairobi hospital. Medical scans revealed he had sustained a swollen brain and blood clots in his head.
The woman, who also sustained injuries while trying to shield Komu from the assault, later helped authorities piece together the events of that evening, as the victim had no memory of what transpired after the attack.
Mbugua has since denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000, with an alternative bond of the same amount. The case is ongoing.
