Several people are feared dead following a devastating fire that broke out in a four-storey building in the Stage 2 area of Congo, within the densely populated Kawangware estate.

The inferno, which erupted in the early hours of the day, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault. The blaze rapidly spread through the building, sending residents fleeing for safety as flames threatened to engulf adjacent structures.

Local kiosks, shops, and residential units in the vicinity were also affected. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as families rushed to save their belongings amid thick smoke and soaring flames.

Emergency services responded to the scene to contain the blaze, although by the time firefighters arrived, significant damage had already been done.

Authorities have yet to confirm the number of casualties, but initial reports suggest that several lives may have been lost.

An investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
