Tension is mounting in Isiolo County as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allege threats to their lives following the alleged abduction and assault of a former County Executive Committee (CEC) member.
Sixteen out of 18 MCAs on Saturday visited the former official, who is currently receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital after being found abandoned and injured in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
The MCAs say the incident has sparked fear and anxiety among them, especially those supporting a motion to impeach the governor. Several members claim they have been forced to flee their homes and go into hiding, alleging they are being pursued by unknown armed individuals late into the night.
“There’s growing insecurity targeting leaders who speak against corruption and poor governance. Our colleague’s abduction is a warning shot to the rest of us,” said one MCA, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The lawmakers have accused the Isiolo Governor of poor leadership and mismanagement of public funds, saying that after enduring three years under his administration, they can no longer remain silent.
Despite the alleged intimidation, the MCAs have vowed to proceed with their planned motion to impeach the governor, insisting that their push for accountability and transparency will not be derailed.
Investigations into the abduction and threats are reportedly ongoing, although police have yet to issue an official statement.
