Driver in president Ruto’s motorcade who killed a Briton while speeding, released on bail

Nairobi, Kenya – A police officer accused of causing the death of a 79-year-old British national through dangerous driving has been released on a KSh150,000 cash bail.

Police Constable George Mwangi Maina appeared before the Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, June 5, 2025, where he was charged with causing the death of Edgar Charles Frederick Riches.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on March 13, 2025, at approximately 12:30 PM along Ngong Road, near Adams Arcade in Nairobi County. PC Mwangi, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Prado bearing dual registration numbers GKB 790J/KCY 351H, allegedly drove in a manner dangerous to other road users, resulting in the fatal collision.

The elderly victim reportedly died on the spot.

The court granted the accused officer bail pending the hearing and determination of the case. The matter will proceed to mention or hearing on a date yet to be announced.
