A tragic road crash in the early hours of Sunday morning claimed the lives of three people and left eight others injured after a speeding pickup plowed into a police-led rescue operation at Chuma area, just three kilometers south of Kinangop Police Station.

According to a police report filed under OB No. 02/15/06/2025 at 1:30am, the incident occurred around 1:20am while officers from Kinangop Police Station and the Traffic Department were responding to an earlier road accident involving two motorcycles.

As the officers, alongside members of the public, were conducting rescue and recovery efforts, a silver Isuzu D-Max double cabin pickup, registration number KBT 522N, approached the scene at high speed from Engineer direction toward Njabini. The vehicle rammed into a stationary police vehicle, registration number GKB 679T, and a parked lorry.

The violent impact struck several individuals at the scene, including the police officers and civilians who were assisting with the rescue operation.

The crash tragically claimed the lives of Sergeant Dickson Kilonzo, Police Constable Gilbert Makori, and Ben Wakivi, the driver of the speeding Isuzu D-Max.

Eight others were injured in the collision and were rushed to North Kinangop Mission Hospital for emergency treatment.
