Police officers from Cheptais Police Station, in a joint operation with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers from Kitale, arrested two suspects in connection with illegal wildlife trafficking at Kipsis Junction in Cheptais.

Acting on intelligence reports, the officers intercepted the suspects as they transported elephant tusks concealed in a blue sack on a motorcycle.

“The suspects were intercepted while transporting two elephant tusks concealed in a blue sack on a motorcycle,” NPS stated.

The suspects are currently in custody at Cheptais Police Station and are expected to be arraigned in court.

They will face charges of Being in Possession of Wildlife Trophies of Endangered Species, an offence under Section 92(4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013.

The National Police Service (NPS) has reiterated its commitment to protecting Kenya’s wildlife resources through inter-agency collaboration.

The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant agencies to protect Kenya’s wildlife and natural heritage.
